Sharjah24: In its continuous endeavour to bring joy to its elderly members, the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) has organised a pilgrimage journey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the senior parents under its care.
The three-day trip, running from 8th to 10th December, includes performing Umrah in Mecca, along with exploring both historical and recreational landmarks. Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Al-Darmaki, the manager of the department branch in Kalba, affirmed that the comprehensive programme for the journey was crafted in adherence to the department's plan. Coordination was also established with relevant authorities within the country and the country's embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to actualise the spiritual and recreational objectives for the 12 elderly participants and their companions.

Acknowledging the Sharjah Civil Aviation Department for their collaboration in providing tickets for the elderly, Al-Darmaki stressed that these activities are designed to alleviate the isolation of the elderly and reintegrate them into society through a variety of activities and programmes catering to their diverse interests. He clarified that the department annually arranges spiritual or recreational trips for elderly members, contributing to the fulfilment of its goals to bring happiness and entertainment to them.

Al-Darmaki highlighted the department's commitment to addressing the needs of the elderly, including attention, healthcare, natural therapy, and various services. The department is dedicated to fulfilling their psychological and physical requirements, ensuring their integration into society. He noted the presence of companions, social workers, doctors, and care experts affiliated with the department during the trip. Furthermore, he mentioned that the department conducts an annual meeting to gather their opinions and feedback on the programmes provided to them, aligning with the department's policy of fostering a society characterised by well-being, security, family stability, and social inclusion.
