Sharjah24: The Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) opted to mark its 52nd National Day in the company of senior citizens associated with the department and residing in the elderly care facility. The primary objective was to foster the integration of the elderly within the broader community on the National Day. Transforming the care facility into a lively festival last Wednesday, the event embraced the participation of all societal groups.

Mariam Al Qatari, the director of the care facility, noted the involvement of over 13 government and private entities in the festivities. She expressed her delight at the communal engagement and the positive sentiments extended toward the elderly. 

Al Qatari emphasised that the role of the elderly went beyond attendance; some actively contributed to the event programme. One resident inaugurated the programme by reciting verses from the Holy Quran. Others participated by presenting segments and responding to questions.

The celebration encompassed diverse activities, including a poetic recital by Ali Al Shuwein, centering on the National Day. Various schools showcased artistic performances, and actor Abdullah Buaabid engaged in artistic segments alongside the audience. Additionally, there were competitions tailored for the elderly.

The festivities featured outdoor displays, such as the preparation of traditional dishes.
