Sharjah 24: Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Khorfakkan, and Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Kalba, crowned the winners of the Kalba Half Marathon event, organised at the Kalba Waterfront on Saturday, December 2, as part of the celebration programmes, on the occasion of the UAE’s 52nd Union Day, in cooperation with Al Qudra Sports Services, the Kalba Waterfront, and a number of other parties. 629 people participated in the event, which included road running for distances of 21.5 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 2.5 km.
The crowning of the winners was attended by His Excellency Counsellor Omar Bin Hanifa, Member of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Sports Council (SSC), His Excellency Rashid Saeed Al Kindi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kalba Sports and Cultural Union Club, His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al Darmaki, Member of the Board of Directors and Secretary General, and Dr. Yasser Omar Al Dokhi, Director of the Sports and Community Events Department.
On this occasion, His Excellency Omar bin Hanifa praised the success of the event, pointing out that the event coincided with the UAE’s 52nd Union Day celebrations. His Excellency Omar bin Hanifa stressed that the broad participation consolidated the love of society groups of all ages for sports and the keenness to contribute to the excellence of the community sporting events held annually by Sharjah Sports Council.
His Excellency Omar bin Hanifa also pointed out that the choice of location was also distinctive to ensure the diversity of holding events in the various cities of Sharjah, which contributes to promoting sports tourism and learning about the wonderful and beautiful cities of the emirate.
In turn, Dr. Yasser Omar Al Dokhi said that Kalba Half Marathon event was distinguished by all standards in all aspects, with the participation of sports fans.
Al Dokhi thanked the various supporting and sponsoring bodies, namely Sharjah Police General Command, Al Qudra Sports Services, Kalba Municipality, Kalba Union Club, Sharjah Broadcast Authority (SBA), SHUROOQ Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Kalba Waterfront, and Al Jaber Opticals, which provided prizes to the winners of the 10 km race, free inspection services.
