Sharjah24: During an interview on the fringes of the exhibition, "Sharjah 24" spoke with Mona El Mousfy, Advisor of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial 2023, about the event's programming, viewpoint, and other features.
She explained that the architectural triennial serves as a platform for discussions of the architectural community, with participants engaging with the topic from the perspective of an "expanded view of architecture," which includes architecture as ideas and architecture in all of its facets (social, economic, cultural, and environmental). Thus, they opted for the first edition, and this edition is not the only programming available; once every three years, there are major international events.
Adrian Lahoud was the curator of the first edition, which is about future generation rights. The notion Adrian made was really interesting from a theoretical standpoint. There was a lot of legacy from this edition from the institution in the sense that we became very aware and examined more carefully all the social and environmental impacts of construction and building; however, it is a very intellectual edition, and so we thought it would be interesting to show how we can help practitioners look for alternatives to commercial building.
