Sharjah 24: The Flag Day Chess Championship, organised by Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled in Sharjah, will begin, on Sunday, in cooperation with the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club and under the supervision of the Sharjah Sports Council.

100 players, male and female, representing Al Thiqah Clubs for the Disabled, the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, Al Dhaid Club, Al Batayeh Club, Al Hamriyah Club, Mleiha Club, Khorfakkan Club, and Chess and Culture Club for Sharjah Women, are participating in the event. 

The event aims to discover and determine the levels of new and unclassified talent in the sport of chess and develop the spirit of competition among the participating players.

For his part, Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled, confirmed that chess is one of the new sports that the club has included and has received great demand from the club members with disabilities.

He noted that such events are held to train and develop the mental, physical, social and psychological capabilities of people with disabilities.
