Fahim Al Qasimi reviews SAA’s achievements

Sharjah 24: Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah, visited Sharjah Archeology Authority (SAA) headquarters, to review achievements and learn about archaeological discoveries in the different locations of Sharjah, such as Mleiha, Tal Abraq, Kalba, Khorfakkan, and others.
His Excellency Issa Yousef, Director General of SAA, briefed Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi on the discoveries resulting from the authority’s excavations, which started more than half a century ago, to learn about the history of the region, protect historical sites, and extract archaeological treasures in the Emirate of Sharjah. His Excellency Issa Yousef also briefed Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi on the advanced methods followed by the authority to restore antiquities of all types in accordance with the highest international standards and scientific techniques.

His Excellency Issa Yousef presented the pioneering achievements of SAA, whereas the authority documented cultural heritage (using 3D technology, virtual reality, or augmented reality), and displayed more than 1600 archaeological pieces and stone inscriptions that researchers and scholars can view, and compare them to other pieces discovered around the world without the need to move the original pieces.

Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi listened to a comprehensive explanation about the most important artifacts that illustrate Sharjah’s relationship, role, and importance in global trade routes throughout history, including the discovered pieces made in China, India, and Greece, and others, such as the amphorae made in Rhodes and hold the seals of their makers, and moved through trade routes to settle in the cemeteries of Mleiha.  In addition to pieces of celadon made in Fujian, China. Among the important pieces that indicate the roots of Sharjah that go deep into history are stone arrowheads and stone tools dating back to ancient times. 

Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi reviewed the sites of the Emirate of Sharjah that were recently listed on the list of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO), which included Sharjah Fort (Al Hisn), the first site to be included in the list of the organisation in the UAE.
