Sharjah24 : With the aim of promoting and strengthening sustainable cooperation, the University of Sharjah signed a memorandum of understanding with the global, research, pharmaceutical company "AbbVie”, signed on behalf of the University of Sharjah by its Chancellor, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, and on behalf of the company, His Excellency Hassan Sabbah, General Manager of AbbVie in the Gulf and Levent region.
The agreement aims to enhance students' cognitive skills in various aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, including talent management, promoting research, development and knowledge exchange in the field of biopharmaceuticals, creating a pool of future talent for pharmaceutical companies through joint initiatives, as well as providing an opportunity for students to collaborate with the public and private sectors in the UAE to enhance their knowledge and skills in the pharmaceutical industry, including co-deployment and resource sharing, teaching, joint supervision, and curriculum development.
The MoU stipulates that the two parties will cooperate in several initiatives, including: an internship program that will provide students with practical experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, a mentorship program to support and develop students professionally, in addition to the Emiratisation program to provide opportunities for UAE nationals to join the biopharmaceutical industry, and promote diversity and inclusion initiatives in the biopharmaceutical industry and its operations in the biopharmaceutical industry and other areas of cooperation in research and development to establish an annual grant program to support the best innovative research projects in the field of biopharmaceuticals, as well as the joint publication of research and articles in the field of biopharmaceuticals .
In addition to exchanging knowledge on many topics including: practical application of pharmaceutical business management, principles of marketing, pharmacy law ethics, pharmaceutical communication skills, pharmaceutical biotechnology and gene therapy, clinical literature evaluation, and other topics related to global health and health policy in pharmacy, drug development, innovation, regulatory affairs, and drug registration.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding was attended by Prof. Qutayba Hamid, Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges and Health Sciences and Dean of College of Medicine, Prof. Karim El-Zu'bi, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Manal Awad, Director, University Dental Hospital Sharjah, Dr. Manar Abu Talib, Chair of Research Outreach Department, and Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy, Head of Technology Transfer Office .
