Sharjah24: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), presided over the University of Sharjah Board of Trustees' fifty-fifth meeting this morning (June 14, 2023), at his office at the university.
The President of the University of Sharjah thanked the Council members for their attendance and expressed his confidence that the Council, with its new members, will continue to support the University's progress and development and achieve more achievements at all levels, thanks to the projects and development ideas they will present and the plans that the Council will work on.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi praised the University of Sharjah's global position as one of the (251 to 300) best universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, to be the first at the UAE level, as well as a number of other international and Arab classifications.

The council approved the university's budget for the 2023–2024 academic year, which totalled 1,148,000,000 dirhams. The council also accepted the budget report and the names of 1853 graduate students.

The council evaluated a report on the procedures for commanding employment at the university, with the goal of granting Emirati citizens administrative roles at the university by the end of this year.

The meeting heard the Compliance and Internal Audit Committee's report, and a number of recommendations connected to the committee's work were approved. In addition, the council authorised the promotion of 23 academic members, 11 to the rank of professor and 12 to the rank of associate professor.

The council approved a number of new academic programmes as well as the university's contribution to the project (short-term learning units) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, which aims to provide more education and training opportunities for national staff as well as motivate them to obtain academic and professional qualifications, develop their career and productivity paths, and contribute to development plans.

Dr Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah (UOS), delivered a detailed report in which he stated that the university continues to follow its strategic plan for 2019–2024 and has met the majority of its performance indicators. The university also analysed its performance on a large scale in order to continuously enhance its operations and prepare for its next strategic plan (2024–2030).

The University of Sharjah's Director emphasised that the university's performance and achievements in scientific research continued to improve and that the university maintained the first rank at the state level in terms of scientific publication and citations in the global database and in the classification of international universities, as well as ranking first in the country for the first time.

According to the Times Higher Education classification and first position according to the UI Green Metric World University Rankings for the sixth year in a row, academic programmes have received national and international certification in accordance with strategic goals. Furthermore, the university has the most academic programmes in the country, with 75% of its academic programmes receiving international accreditation from major international accrediting organisations.

According to the university's director, the plan for the years 2024–2030 aims to make the University of Sharjah one of the top 200 universities in the world, to keep its number one position on the national level, and to train 25% more scientists, researchers, and academic leaders from the United Arab Emirates.

While discussing the university's effective role in assisting students, the Director of the University of Sharjah discussed the university's academic programmes, of which, according to him, it had 125 in addition to 28 in the works.

There were representatives from foreign universities, think tanks, study and research centres, and deans and heads of organisations from the university's partners in areas including banking, human resources, education, social services, and other fields.
