Sharjah 24: Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) “accident reporting service” through Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, launched by SPSA last year, saw a great demand by customers, as the service allows occupational health and safety officials to report accidents in different workplaces, through easy and quick steps, without the need to go to the Authority's headquarters.
His Excellency Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director of SPSA, explained that the Authority seeks to create a safe society free of dangers by launching new and diversified services that realise the Authority vision.  He indicated that the accident reporting service supports cooperation with all entities in Sharjah.

Engineer Noura Al Hammadi, Head of the Reports Department, explained that the SPSA launched an introductory campaign including introductory visits to each of the educational facilities; construction sites and factories in the Emirate of Sharjah; and distribution of pamphlets explaining the procedures to be followed in the event of accidents. She added that the campaign included organising training workshops, for officials of Safety in Work Sites, to get acquainted with the method of reporting accidents within the system, as it is not necessary for the safety officer to come to SPSA Authority and report the accident.

Pamphlets explain the types of accidents that must be reported, and the time period for each type, which includes injuries, fractures, burns, occupational diseases and dangerous accidents, which affect the safety of workers in different vital sectors.

SPSA called on all educational facilities, construction sites, and factories in Sharjah to register in the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, to ensure the safety of practicing activities in the emirate by providing the necessary information to monitor and analyse risks; implement the necessary preventive measures; and determine the requirements necessary to practice the activity in a safe and healthy manner.

Reporting occupational accidents to the Prevention and Safety Authority must be done through the system, within a maximum period of 24 hours for fatal accidents, and 72 hours for other accidents.  Accidents data are received for the purpose of information and analysis to implement preventive measures that prevent the recurrence of accidents.
