Sharjah 24: The judging committee of the mews competition, launched by Sharjah Falconers Club, continues to support the UAE sustainability efforts and to meet the requirements of Sharjah Sports Council in establishing a culture of sustainability in all sports affairs, including falconry.
Sharjah Falconers Club allocated generous prizes for the “Best 2023 Sustainable Mews” competition, as part of its efforts to promote a culture of sustainability in falconry by preparing mewses for breeding and care, whereas it is one of the inherited sports, and one of the habits that are rooted in the Emirati environment.
The committee formed of Abdul Aziz Sultan Al Ali, Chairman of the Committee, and members Saeed Matar Dalmuk Al Ketbi, Obaid Matar Markhan Al Ketbi, and Mosbeh Matar bin Ghurair Al Ketbi, visited a number of mewses participating in the competition, after Sharjah Falconers Club set out a number of procedures and requirements for the participating mewses.
To apply to the “Best 2023 Sustainable Mews” competition, the total number of falcons in the mews must not be less than four, in addition to presenting important items for evaluating participation, including the location of the mews, the level of cleanliness and general care within the mews.
Among the requirements, making sure that the mews space is suitable to the number of falcons, the number and location of centres, the number of workers compared to the number of falcons, air conditioning, precautionary measures in the event of a power outage, in addition to checking the quality of the inner walls.
Abdul Aziz Sultan Al Ali, Chairman of the Committee, explained that the Committee's work is continuing until the end of July, to evaluate all the participating mewses, in light of the great demand by falconers to participate in the competition that supports falconry in Sharjah.
Abdul Aziz Sultan Al Ali pointed out that there are a number of goals enhancing sustainability in the mews, including a number of measures, such as the use of alternative energy by no less than 10%, and the rationalisation of electricity and water consumption in the mews.
Al Ali pointed out that one of the measures that enhance sustainability is taking into account the application of health and safety standards, the disposal of waste and residuals in a safe and sustainable manner, while making sure that there are places to prepare food for falcons, method of feeding, mewses flexibility and how they are used throughout the year.
