Sharjah 24: From July 9 through August 28, Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled's Social Committee hosted events for the club's non-athlete and autistic spectrum disabled members as part of the second edition of the "Spectrum and Summer" programming.
Sports, including swimming and basketball, as well as a multi-fitness programme, are part of the schedule. Drawing workshops, personal skill training, awareness lectures, leisure outings, and cultural contests were all part of the event's cultural and social programming.
Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled, was present for the opening ceremonies and praised the efforts of the club's Social Committee in organising the events and the various sports and cultural activities that aim to exploit leisure time in useful programmes.
He also noted that the programme (Spectrum and Summer) aims to attract club members who are not athletes and people on the autism spectrum through targeted activities.
He added that the programme is expected to be very successful, just like it was last year, because it helps club members feel more connected to their community, has a positive effect on their skill development, and facilitates their effective social integration into mainstream society.
