Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Press Club of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau has announced the fifth edition of the annual media-training programme, Ithmar, for children and youth, from July 10 to August 3.
The Candidates Evaluation Committee has commenced, on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, interviews with prospective candidates to select the final participants according to the specified criteria. The interviews extend until Thursday, July 6th, 2023.
The fifth edition of the programme will be held in different locations in the Emirate of Sharjah, including Al Qasimia University, Sheraa: Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre, and the Flying Saucer in Sharjah, in addition to organising field visits to various media outlets, including Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Dubai Media Incorporated, Al Arabiya and CNN Arabic.
In a collaborative effort, the Sharjah Press Club is joining forces with esteemed media institutions, including CNN Arabic and the Dubai Post website, to provide theoretical training for the participants of the fifth edition of the programme. As part of this initiative, students enrolled in the Ithmar programme will have the opportunity to enhance their skills through the expertise of the dedicated professionals at the Sharjah Government Media Bureau. Through a partnership with the Job Shadowing Programme, participants will receive valuable training in content creation across various mediums, leveraging the extensive experience and skills of Sharjah Government Media Bureau employees.
Since its inception in 2019, the programme has been designed to provide students with an immersive learning experience spanning approximately one month. The programme covers a range of intensive themes, including artificial intelligence journalism, expertly delivered by CNN Arabic. Dubai Post offers valuable insights into media education, while journalist Abdullah Ismail shares his expertise on television journalism and public speaking. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Job Shadowing Programme, students gain hands-on training in various aspects such as news editing, content creation for social media platforms, mobile journalism, media communication, safe electronic practises, as well as photography and videography.
Participants in the Ithmar programme will complete a graduation project divided into phases, aligning with the programme's timeframe to ensure stable knowledge delivery.
Her Excellency Alya Al Suwaidi, Director of SGMB, expressed a strong commitment to evolving the annual training programme in alignment with the dynamic press and media landscape. The programme aims to achieve its knowledge objectives by equipping a generation of media professionals who contribute to the UAE's thriving media sector and empower future generations with exceptional media opportunities. The training plan has been thoughtfully designed, taking into account the age groups of the participants, and combines the dissemination of knowledge with an enjoyable learning experience.
In its fifth edition, the programme has been extended from two weeks to approximately a month, with intensified theoretical and practical training modules. This expansion reflects the ongoing efforts to enhance and support the programme's outcomes.
It is worth noting that the Sharjah Press Club conducts various programmes, initiatives, and sessions throughout the year to support and serve the press and media sector and its professionals.
