Sharjah 24: One thousand cyclists representing 44 countries participated in the World Bicycle Day celebration organised by the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC). There was an array of ages and nationalities represented on the 9-kilometre walk along the Sharjah Corniche, and the two-hour competition for first place was intense.
The organising committee presented the participants with medals in recognition of their efforts.
Khaled Al Ali, Director of Shurooq's Al Hira Beach; Ahmed Al Salman, Head of the Department of Community Initiatives and Events at the Sharjah Sports and Community Activities Authority; and Ahmed Obaid Yousef Al Qaseer, Executive Director of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), were all present.
The Director of Sports and Community Events at SSC, Yasser Omar Al Doukhi, was happy with the event's success and huge participation, and he reaffirmed the council's commitment to annually mark this global occasion and improve community sports in the Emirate, where cycling is popular.
Al Doukhi expressed his appreciation to Shurooq for hosting the event on such a beautiful beach, pointing out that the council always makes an effort to select iconic spots in the Emirate for sports tourism events. In addition, he expressed his appreciation to the Sharjah Police, the United Arab Emirates Cycling Federation, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Gulfa Water, the Sharjah Voluntary Work Centre, BEEAH, the Sharjah Triathlon Team, sports clubs in the Emirate, amateur teams, and many other organisations for their support.
