Sharjah24: Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) announced its participation in the 2nd edition of “Make it in the Emirates” Forum, which was organised by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), with the participation of Emirati Talent Competitiveness program (NAFIS) and a number of government and private agencies.
This forum highlights the opportunities for signing strategic partnerships with high-level local and international companies that are keen to invest in manufacturing and production in UAE. Such thing aims at offering the plans and strategies carried out by the Emirati factories and to take advantage of expansion opportunities at the level of supply chains and procurement in order to provide opportunities for investors inside or outside the country to discuss the possibility of establishing factories in UAE.
SEDD participation falls within SEDD concerns that confirms its commitment to its strategic plan and vision that focuses on reaching a competitive, diversified and sustainable economy that achieves the economic well-being of the business community in the emirate. This shows its concerns to attain comprehensive economic development and to improve competitive business environment by strengthening institutional capabilities to reach a diversified and sustainable competitive economy that accomplishes economic well-being for the business community in cooperation with strategic partners.
From his side, His Excellency Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, confirmed that the forum embodies the common economic visions of the participating parties. This is done by presenting, defining and promoting the plans, programs and policies followed by each entity. Also, it is carried out through identifying with the future directions of the industrial sector and the facilities, incentives and enablers provided by UAE for investment in the industrial sector.
His Excellency pointed out that SEDD focuses on placing a map for industrial investment in the emirate in cooperation with the concerned government agencies, explaining that participation in such forums would support the efforts aimed at attracting more investments to the emirate. Likely, His Excellency stressed that the Department adopts best practices that would create a competitive environment to attract investments to Sharjah. He stated that the growth rate of industrial business licenses reached 7.3%, with 2,730 industrial licenses issued and renewed in the emirate during the year 2022. Also, the volume of industrial output amounted to 2.2 billion dirhams, with a growth rate of 4.6%. this indicates achieving sustainable economic growth and building a productive economy in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aimed at developing the industrial environment in the emirate.
Also, His Excellency pointed out that this forum was in line with the ambitious aspirations of participating government departments and institutions in general and SEDD in particular in building a competitive, innovative, and sustainable knowledge-based economy. This helps to achieve through the quality of service distribution, raising the efficiency of infrastructure, and setting requirements and planning standards to reach an optimal economic environment in Sharjah.
On the other hand, Maryam Nasir Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Industrial Affairs Department at SEDD, praised that participation in such forums. She added that such forums are considered an ideal opportunity to exchange views, ideas and proposals with government and private agencies and departments and to enhance the business environment in UAE. This contributes to attracting local and foreign investments to the industrial sector, and directing them to priority industries under the umbrella of "Make it in the Emirates" initiative, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology.
She added that SEDD pays great attention to adopt a clear strategy to develop industrial investment in the emirate. She clarified that developing Sharjah’s economy is one of the main tasks of the Department, which contributes to strengthening the emirate's position on the economic map to achieve sustainable economic development.
Moreover, she emphasised on the importance of the cooperation between SEDD and various government and private agencies to unify and combine efforts that would achieve sustainable economic development in the emirate.
