Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Architecture Biennial, the first major platform for architecture and urbanism in the Middle East, North and East Africa, and Asia, organised the exhibition "A Journey into Architecture Archives: Beirut, Cairo, Rabat", which presents information and old architectural plans by the architectural researcher George Arbid.
Arbid stated that the exhibition highlights three institutions in the Arab world that hold and preserve architecture archives, shedding light on the rich history and contributions of architects to modern architecture.
He added that the exhibition features archival material from the Arab Centre for Architecture in Beirut, the Rare Books and Special Collections at the American University in Cairo and Archives du Maroc in Rabat.
Arbid confirmed to “Sharjah 24” that the exhibition also focuses on five unrealised projects abandoned due to various reasons. In addition, on view, will be three documentaries commissioned specifically for the exhibition, which will give visitors the opportunity to see designs that never came to fruition.
Arbid pointed out that the exhibition's goal is to highlight the history of modern architecture in the Arab region and the contributions of architects in this field, as well as encouraging visitors to pay attention to the history of architecture, preserve it and benefit from it in the future.
