The number reflects a growth rate of 3% for the same period in 2022.
His Excellency Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), explained that the data is one of the most important economic indicators that SEDD relies on to review the economic situation in Sharjah.
His Excellency stressed that the strategic goal of SEDD is to achieve a comprehensive plan that promotes economic development.
His Excellency added that the latest data issued by SEDD indicate a noticeable increase in investments towards existing projects, which reflects Sharjah sustainable economic growth, and such figures reflect businesses confidence in the investment opportunities available in Sharjah, whereas Sharjah business results including business licences’ issuance and renewal are in line with the recent GDP growth in Sharjah.
Fahd Ahmed Al Khamiri, Director of the Registration and Licencing Department at SEDD, confirmed that the increase of business licences during the first quarter of 2023 confirms that the local economy is strong and the investment environment is attractive in Sharjah, whereas SEDD initiatives during the past period contributed to enhancing business growth and attracting more investments, pointing out that numbers reflect the business sectors' confidence in the investment opportunities available in Sharjah's economy.
Khalfan Al Harithi, Director of the Branches Department in SEDD, said that business licences issued and renewed in the first quarter of 2023 have increased, due to the remarkable investment movement in the cities of the Central and Eastern Regions, as the huge development projects launched by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah in the region had a significant impact on the economic sector.
Such impact was reflected in the data issued by SEDD, showing a strong growth in the number of licences issued and renewed for the branches.
Al Harithi explained SEDD continuous support for investment projects in the Central and Eastern Regions, especially for national and entrepreneurs’ projects, as SEDD is keen to launch many initiatives that will enhance and diversify the business environment and ensure its sustainability in all cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.
