Sharjah 24: "Sharjah 24" discusses Emirati heritage crafts through the programme "Crafts of Forefathers", which is shown on Mondays and Thursdays of every week throughout the holy month, over the course of 8 episodes.
Ali Al Abdan, Director of the Artistic Heritage Department at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, explained that folk medicine is a type of therapeutic and health experience that is present in all societies and all civilisations and cultures, especially the heritage and culture of the UAE.

Al Abdan indicated, during the sixth episode of the "Crafts of Forefathers" programme that this folk medicine ranges from simple treatment such as herbs, and treatment of burns to treatment of fractures through the so-called “cross –leg sitting position”, where the expert contradicts between the patient’s feet to return the veins to their place, and also treating the liver by taking a piece of date in the shape of a liver and placing it on the abdomen and then raising it until the abdomen is straight.

Al Abdan also talked about the treatment of tonsils, or the marking Cauterisation, which is performed  by placing a small rod of iron in the fire until it turns red and treats the patient with it, among the other traditional treatment techniques, Al Abdan said, is cupping, which was performed by the barber who performs the cupping process to extract the bad blood, as well as treatment using verses from the holy Quran which is done by the “Mutawa”.
