Sharjah 24: "Sharjah 24", through the “Health Messages in Ramadan” programme, which is shown on Tuesday and Wednesday of every week, throughout the holy month, and over the course of 8 episodes, reviews the most important health and nutritional practices that must be followed during the holy month of Ramadan.
Prof. Salah Abusnana, Head of the Department and Consultant of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University Hospital Sharjah, stressed in the fifth episode of the programme, which is shown on Tuesday and Wednesday of every week, throughout the holy month, and over the course of 8 episodes, the need to consult with the specialist doctor and amend pharmaceutical doses for diabetic patients during the month of Ramadan.

He said that the treatment of diabetics is divided into three categories. The first is lifestyle treatment, which is safe and does not require a major change in treatment. The second is treatment with pills, where it is recommended to consult a doctor to reduce the dose of pills during the month of Ramadan. The third is treatment with insulin drugs, and it is recommended to reduce doses in a way that keeps the patient from entering a “slump” or an increase in sugar.

He emphasised the importance of exercising for a diabetic patient, in which there is no great muscular effort, so that the patient does not become dehydrated, and the necessity of measuring sugar an hour after exercising.
