Sharjah24: The first Al Dhaid Charity Marathon, organised by the Friends of Arthritis Patients (FAP) of the Health Promotion Department (HPD) at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah in cooperation with Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, will kick off tomorrow Saturday at 7:00am under the motto “Movement is Life”.

The charity marathon, which starts at Al Dhaid Cultural Club, aims to attract wide participation, raise awareness of arthritis, and promote physical activity, in addition to supporting arthritis patients and motivating them to pursue healthy lifestyles by maintaining daily physical activity and exercising. The marathon also aims at promoting the tourist attractions in the central area.

The marathon will include many sports, awareness and entertainment activities, through which the focus will be on providing free medical examination and consultations, as well as leaflets about health issues. Health experts and specialists will also be there to give tips on the importance of healthy habits and introduce simple exercises that can be done in various places. Furthermore, there will be sports competitions in addition to cash and in-kind prizes.

The event will include five categories: 1km for ages 8-20, 3km for ages 8-40 and over, 5km for ages 14-40 and over, and 10km for ages 16-40 and over. The fifth category will also include subcategories such as the oldest and youngest competitor, the best family, the largest participating government authority, the largest participating private organization, and the largest participating school. The winners will receive prizes at the end of the race.
