Sharjah 24: Sharjah Municipality (SM) has undertaken around 700 inspection visits to abandoned properties since the beginning of this year.
This has enabled officials to analyse the situation and respond appropriately. The municipal administration has said that forty abandoned houses have been demolished and eighty have been cleaned and shuttered for the purpose of Sharjah's civilised and visually pleasant look.
Cleaning abandoned buildings, according to Engineer Yaqoub Al Zarouni, Director of the Municipality's Department of Engineering and Building Control, is intended to avoid the development of weeds or pests that threaten public health, their usage by unknown individuals, and any undesirable practises or behaviours.
According to Al Zarouni, the municipality is working with the appropriate authorities to take the required steps to deal with the abandoned buildings, expedite the process, make things simpler, and bring the issue to an end as soon as possible.
