Sharjah24 – AFP: Morocco's King Mohammed VI touts the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, which should supply West Africa and Europe, against the backdrop of fierce rivalry with neighboring Algeria, Africa's largest exporter of natural gas.
Commenting on this, Mohammed VI , king of Morocco stated, "Within this framework, with Our Brother, His Excellency Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we took the initiative to launch the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project. We are pleased to note the present state of progress of this great project, in accordance with the Agreement signed in December 2016."
The king of Morocco added, "For us, the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline represents more than a bilateral project between two sister countries. We hope that it will be a strategic project that will benefit the entire West African region, whose population exceeds 440 million inhabitants. Indeed, in addition to Morocco and Mauritania, this pipeline offers the fifteen ECOWAS countries opportunities and guarantees for energy security and socio-economic and industrial development."
Concluding his statement, Mohammed VI also pointed out, "Intended for present and future generations, the project works in favor of peace, economic integration of the African continent and its common development. Given the continental dimension of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, we also see it as a structuring project that promises to link Africa and Europe."
