Sharjah24: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, inspected the readiness of "Sharjah Sat-1" satellite, co-manufactured by Emirati engineers from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SASST), on Sunday morning. The satellite is set for launch in December.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed was briefed, by Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah and Director General of the Academy, on the space mission "Sharjah Sat-1", its technical features, and its objectives.
The President of the University met with the Emirati engineers who were part of the developing process of the satellite. He listened to a detailed explanation of the development stages of the satellite and the final pre-launch preparations.
The satellite, a cubic-shaped satellite, contains two payloads, basic and sub. It is the first space mission for the Academy in cooperation with Istanbul Technical University and Sabanci University in Turkey. These satellites are known for their small size, low cost, and less manufacturing time than large ones.
"Sharjah Sat-1" aims to expand the perceptions of students and the public and introduce them to space science, starting from the design of these projects to their launch.
A team of engineers and students with technological capabilities and scientific experiences is assigned to supervise and operate the ground station, adding more knowledge that will be used for future projects.
