His Highness directed the necessity of transforming these research projects into projects that can be directly benefited from to serve the community and various sectors, and His Highness called on various institutions to adopt these projects and transform them into commercial projects that benefit all parties and enhance scientific, educational, health, technical and environmental efforts.
His Highness the President of the UOS followed up through a detailed presentation on one of the pioneering projects at the UOS, specialising in producing green hydrogen from seawater, which is considered one of the main projects within the university’s strategy for 2030, and aims to establish a pilot station to produce green hydrogen using seawater as a primary source. Hydrogen is considered a carbon-free energy, as it produces only water vapour when burned, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels. The project is in line with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
His Highness was introduced to the most prominent uses of green hydrogen, which operates turbines and heats buildings. His Highness was briefed on the production plan, starting with the construction of a pilot station to produce hydrogen with a production capacity of up to 200 kilograms of hydrogen per day, leading to the second phase, which aims to establish a station with a production capacity of 2,000 kilograms per day to meet the needs of the Emirate of Sharjah. This will be done through direct electrolysis of seawater, an innovative technology that does not require desalination or evaporation processes to remove salts. This technology relies on taking advantage of the salinity of seawater as a natural electrolyte, which reduces energy consumption and increases the efficiency of the process.
This project is a pivotal step towards achieving the goals of sustainability and renewable energy in the Emirate of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates, and highlights the role of the UOS as a leading educational and research institution that contributes to achieving the UAE Vision 2030.
His Highness the President of the UOS reviewed the readiness of the digital application "EduMentor", an educational programme that combines the power of artificial intelligence and entertainment methods by presenting information in an easy and competitive way with the aim of encouraging students to participate, consolidate information and practice virtual applications.
His Highness was briefed on the application’s unique and attractive educational experience for the students of the UOS. The application was designed internally between the College of Health Sciences and the College of Computing and Informatics. The application features artificial intelligence by preparing a set of questions for each academic course stemming from the material of that course. Students will be able to interact with the application at the time and place they choose and will receive personal feedback on their performance with a copy to the faculty member teaching the course, who in turn will work to address any shortcomings in the students’ understanding of the material supported by feedback from the application. This application embodies the university’s vision of modernising student teaching and learning using the latest available technologies.
His Highness the President of the UOS watched a visual presentation of the project for the prevention and accurate diagnosis of neurological and chronic diseases prevalent in the UAE using artificial intelligence, which aims to improve the quality of life of the citizens of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE through early diagnosis of chronic neurological diseases prevalent. His Highness listened to an explanation about the project, which uses artificial intelligence techniques to identify biomarkers related to diseases prevalent in the Emirate of Sharjah and the country, including clinical depression, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease, in addition to chronic diseases such as asthma and cancer. Biomarkers are also used to develop non-invasive diagnostic kits using saliva to accurately diagnose prevalent diseases.
His Highness was briefed on the benefits of this project, which provides a better quality of life for the citizens of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE through screening for prevalent diseases using accurate and effective non-invasive diagnostic biomarker kits, creating a pioneering ecosystem for Emirati students and faculty members at the UOS to develop research work, in addition to establishing a leading startup company in the field of artificial intelligence and precision diagnostic medicine in Sharjah to achieve further research into the mechanisms of prevalent diseases.
His Highness reviewed the report on the achievements of the UOS Centre of Excellence in Healthy Aging, which focuses on community service, education, scientific research, medical initiatives, signing memoranda of understanding, and areas of cooperation with government and private entities. The report addressed the centre’s future plans, which aspire to obtain more international memberships and cooperate with specialised international organisations.
