Sharjah24 – AFP: "It is a historic pact," says Colombian president Gustavo Petro after signing a deal to buy 3 million hectares of land from Colombia's breeders to redistribute it among peasants in the face of the high concentration of rural property.
Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia pointed out, "It is a historic pact because it could make it possible to carry out land reform in Colombia."
The President of Colombia added, "It is the free decision of landowners, dedicated to extensive livestock farming, to sell a part of fertile land that has a better use in the agricultural world, to be given to the peasants of Colombia."
Concluding his speech, President of Colombia stressed, "For decades, decades, the origin of violence has been the absurd and concentrated land tenure in Colombia. Not solving the fundamental problem that generates violence is practically condemning the country to deprivation, poverty, lack of progress and the death of many of its people."
