Sharjah 24:Through a joint operation codenamed "Precious Hunt," the Anti-Narcotics Department of the General Command of Sharjah Police, in conjunction with its counterparts in Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain, successfully disrupted an international plot to smuggle (216) kilograms of narcotics and psychotropic substances through one of the country's seaports for the purposes of promotion and trafficking.
Lt. Colonel Majed Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Sharjah Police, said that after receiving reliable evidence from an inside source indicating the existence of an international criminal organisation with the ultimate goal of smuggling and promoting illegal drugs within the country, a specialised team was formed to monitor and analyse the data, and eventually the date and location of the shipment's arrival in one of the adjacent emirates' beaches.

The primary suspect was apprehended after a successful raid on his residence. When searched, his possession of illegal drugs was revealed to total 216 kilos, including 170 kilograms of cannabis, 46 kilograms of crystal meth, and 500 thousand pills of Captagon; during questioning of the suspect, he revealed that the quantity belonged to four criminal groups; efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects continue.

By complimenting the importance of coordination and collaboration with other state-level police organisations, the head of the Anti-Narcotics Department stated that the police try to detect all attempts of trafficking, smuggling, or drug promotion, in order to strengthen the security and stability of society.

Members of the public are encouraged to help the Sharjah Police prevent young people from becoming addicted to drugs by reporting any suspicious activity to 8004654 or [email protected].
