Sharjah24: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued Decree-Law organising Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (SDAL) .
The Decree-Law No(4) of 2022 stipulated that the headquarters of the department shall be in the city of Sharjah, and it is permissible by a decision of Sharjah Executive Council to establish branches or offices for it in cities and regions of the Emirate.
According to the decree-law, the department aims to achieve the following:
1- Working on developing comprehensive agricultural and livestock development that aims at upgrading all resources, improving production and providing the necessary support for it.
2. Paying attention to the agricultural and animal development sectors in a way that contributes to enhancing the achievement of food security, biosecurity and adaptation to climate change in coordination with the concerned authorities.
3. Encouraging the private sector to adopt agricultural and livestock projects in a way that enhances agricultural business entrepreneurship and sustainable private agricultural investment.
4-Promoting the adoption of modern technology and sustainable agricultural practices and encouraging the development of agricultural research and innovations.
The decree-law divided the functions of the department into the following:
1- General Specialties
2- Competencies related to agriculture
3- Competencies related to regulating agricultural land use
4- Competencies related to livestock
5- Competencies related to Pasture
The decree-law also stipulates that the department shall have a chief appointed by an Emiri decree, assisted by a sufficient number of employees and experts in accordance with its organisational structure, and he shall have the necessary powers and authorities to manage the affairs of the department and take the necessary decisions to achieve its objectives.
The decree-law also includes a set of legal provisions and articles that regulate the work of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock in the Emirate of Sharjah.
