Sharjah 24: The headquarters of the World Disability Union (WDU) in Sharjah won the membership of the Advisory Committee of the Economic and Social Committee of the United Nations, in a new global achievement added to the records of the Emirate, which hosts the headquarters, enhancing its Arab, regional and global position as a friendly city and a nurturing and supportive environment for this important group in society.
The result of the unanimous vote came in favor of the WDU's headquarters in Sharjah, after it earned the confidence of the member states in the elections that took place during the Economic and Social Council held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, from August 29 to September 7, 2022.
This global achievement came as a culmination of the continuous initiatives of the Government of the Emirate of Sharjah to support the rights of people with disabilities, and to harness all the possibilities that contribute to the successful operation of the headquarters of the WDU in accordance with the directives and follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
This important selection at the international level also comes due to the excellence and success of the Emirate of Sharjah in recent years in managing and supporting the achievement of many files, which enhance the work of the WDU and encourage the application of environmental standards for persons with disabilities within the United Arab Emirates and at the regional and international levels.
His Excellency Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, First Vice President of the WDU, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqa Club for the Disabled, praised this great achievement of Sharjah, in addition to the continuous achievements of the Emirate at all levels as a result of the continuous care, directives and unlimited support by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, highlighting that this comes due to His Highness's insightful vision, which take Sharjah to a prominent position in the ranks of the cities that support this important and influential group in society.
His Excellency Dr. Tariq bin Khadim also praised the great efforts and continuous follow-up by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for everything that supports and harnesses the files completed by the WDU in order to provide all the capabilities required to serve the category of people with disabilities.
His Excellency stressed that this new global achievement confirms the UAE's position as a leading country and an excellent environment for caring for this important group to build society and achieve sustainable development.
In turn, Heidar Talleb Abdraboh Arabeh, Secretary-General of the WDU, Member of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqa Club for the Disabled, expressed happiness with this great achievement, pointing out that this comes as a result of the great efforts provided by the Government of Sharjah to support the WDU's headquarters and to serve and care for people with disabilities in all areas.
For his part, Metin Senturk, President of the WDU, praised the achievements of the United Arab Emirates in general and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, which contribute to the completion of files that support the affairs of people with disabilities and facilitate their integration into society.
