Sharjah 24: The fifth Sharjah Masters International Chess Championship, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was a resounding success, with 80 players from 48 nations competing for prizes totalling $60,000.
Grandmaster Uzbek Nodirbek Abdusattorov won the competition, which concluded on Sunday evening, with 7 points. Grandmaster Salem Abdulrahman of the UAE national team came second.
The event witnessed the presence of Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler's Office, Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich, President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, President of the Arab Chess Federation and Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, and a large number of heads of international federations around the world.
