Sharjah24: The Iftar cannon embodies an authentic folklore and an important aspect that expresses the traditional Ramadan atmosphere, and attracts the public, especially young people, to enjoy the moment of its launch in the Khorfakkan Amphitheater, its most prominent tourist attraction.
Coinciding with the call to prayer of Morocco, the sound of the Iftar cannon is announced, announcing the first joy of the fasting person. A well-established folk tradition and heritage that the General Command of Sharjah Police is keen to adhere to and highlight annually in the blessed month of Ramadan.
Major Saeed Muhammad Khamis Al Naqbi, director of the guards branch at the Khorfakkan Comprehensive Police Station, says in statements to “Sharjah 24” that the Iftar cannon is a tradition that the Sharjah Police General Command is keen to organise annually in the holy month.
He added that this year, the cannon was installed in the Khorfakkan Amphitheater, as it is one of the most famous and most beautiful tourist attractions in the city, which we see prominent in the public's turnout from citizens and foreigners to enjoy the moment of firing the cannon.
Al-Naqbi added that Sharjah Police identified several locations for the Iftar cannon in the cities of the emirate to impart a heritage character and spread joy to the residents with the advent of Al Maghrib, noting that 4 police personnel are supervising the firing of the cannon seconds before the Maghrib call to prayer.
