Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler's Office in Kalba, inaugurated the 19th edition of the SHD in Khorfakkan, in the presence of Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, President of the SIH, and Dr. Rashid Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan.
Khaled Al Shehhi, Director of the SIH’s branch in Khorfakkan, stated that the events, held until March 20, take place in two locations, the Heritage Village and the Al Sidra Heritage District, to enable everyone in the eastern regions to attend the festival.
He pointed out that the agenda includes various activities, competitions, academic and cultural sessions presented by specialised professors, educational and training programmes, and several lectures and workshops.
The children will also be on a date with theatrical performances along with folk games, poetry, and music. Also, local, Gulf, and international folk troupes participate in different dances and concerts.
As part of a series of educational and academic programmes held by the Institute's Arab Heritage Center, writer Ihab Al Mallah gave a lecture on reading methods. The lecturer called for considering the criteria and determinants of differences in writing addressed readers for they vary academically, in terms of the smoothness and simplicity of the language or its depth and complexity.
In another event of the Arab Heritage Center, a dialogue session was held discussing the palm tree. Matar Saeed Al Tunaiji, Researcher in Folklore and a Botanist, spoke about the palm tree, its age stages, its different names, aesthetics, and benefits.
Al Tunaiji called for finding new ways and methods to establish a link between the youth and palm trees through economic and agricultural projects.
As part of the theatrical shows at the SHD, the first artistic, musical show designed for children, "The Ghoula", was performed by an Egyptian group. The shows will go on until March 23.
