Sharjah 24: Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) is keen to provide all possibilities and means to protect and care for children and preserve their rights guaranteed by the Law on Child Rights known as the "Wadeema" law. Accordingly, SSSD is keen to celebrate the Emirati Children’s Day, reflecting the care and protection guaranteed by the wise leadership in the UAE, in genera,l and Sharjah in particular.
On the occasion of the Emirati Children’s Day, which falls on March 15, SSSD organised a virtual lecture entitled “and I have rights” presented by Tariq Eid Al Musaifer, a social responsibility specialist, during which he addressed the rights of the child in the “Wadeema” law, indicating the UAE’s interest in children, and that the UAE is among the leading countries to issue laws on child protection.
Al Musaifer stressed the role of the family in protecting the child, calling on parents to provide a comfortable and sound environment for the child. He added that the family is the foundation is sound, the whole society will be sound.
Al Musaifer reviewed the UAE Law on Child Rights, that if violated by the guardian, it will hold them accountable.
Family care is one of “Wadeema” laws stipulating not to expose the child to disease, take care of his health and go to the hospital if he feels unwell. Every child in the UAE has the right to enroll in education, and it is imposed by law on the guardian,
Al Musaifer added that there are other basic rights for the child, namely, his/ her right to life, not being attacked by anyone, providing a decent life, preserving his/ her humanity, the right to obtain a name that does not involve contempt or insult to his/ her dignity, and to register the name immediately after birth.
He also mentioned the right to obtain the nationality of his/ her father in accordance with the laws in force in the UAE and a health card.
