The forum comes under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of honouring creative figures who contributed to enriching the Arab cultural scene, and valuing their efforts in appreciation of their collaboration in different intellectual, literary and cultural fields.
His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, said that Sharjah Cultural Honours Forum is an Arab cultural vision established by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and moved among a number of countries, to enhance the Arab intellectual scene, especially since the forum is one of the components of the Sharjah cultural project aiming at supporting Arab creators.
Al Owais added that the eighth edition of the forum aims to honour a group of Jordanian writers for their great creative output in the Arab cultural arena.
The Forum honoured Mahmoud Fadhil Al Tal, a member of the Jordanian Writers Association and the Arab Writers Union; Nawal Abbasi, a member of the Jordanian Writers Association, a member of the Arab Forum in Amman, and one of the pioneers of contemporary literature in Jordan; Hani Al Amad, who was awarded the title of "Dean of Librarians" in Jordan, especially since he is a researcher in the field of literature, and one of the pioneers of libraries and information in the Arab world; and Hashem Gharaibeh, a writer and journalist, and a member of the Jordanian Writers Association, he was the editor-in-chief of “Baraem Al-Urdun” magazine in 1997, and also the editor-in-chief of the “Wissam” magazine issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Culture, and was appointed director of the cultural department in Irbid Municipality during the years 2005-2006.
