Sharjah 24: The Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah (EPAA) launched the “A Day in the Reserve'' programme, which is distributed over four sites on specific dates, from December 12 to 23, the Khor Kalba Mangrove Center, Wasit Wetland Center, Geological Park in Al Buhais, and Al Muntather Reserve.
The program includes families of different nationalities, contributing to their involvement in environmental and community programs. It enhances the ecological awareness of families by accompanying them on recreational, environmental education trips, which contribute to introducing them to the natural reserves in the Emirate of Sharjah. Reserves such as Wasit wetland center, Khor kalba mabgrove center, Mangrove & Al Hefaiyah reserve, Al Muntather Reserve, and Buhais geology park.
Highlighting protected areas, environmental landmarks in Sharjah
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the EPAA, said: “The Day in the Reserve programme aims to contribute to informing various segments of society about the importance of nature reserves and their affiliated centers in the Emirate of Sharjah, raising awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and wildlife, and enriching a culture of sustainable eco-tourism, Highlighting the protected areas and environmental landmarks in Sharjah, in addition to involving families in environmental and community programs, as it is entertainment and an investment in the children’s vacation time in everything useful in the environmental world.”

The commission’s teams presented several activities, educational workshops, environmental competitions, outdoor field visits, and indoor tours to the 130 individuals, representing 21 families, who visited these reserves and centers. They also highlighted the family afforestation initiative in the Al Muntather Reserve, with the aim of introducing visitors to local perennial and non-perennial plants, their importance, and their conservation.

A variety of purposeful activities
The activities and programs offered at each center, reserve, or site vary depending on what each contains. There are many targeted and attractive activities and events, which start with the receiving and welcoming of families who are then divided into groups. Under the care of an expert guide, groups tour the sites and are acquainted with what each one covers and their impressive biodiversity. This is followed by the presentation of educational workshops and competitions.
