Sharjah 24: An Arab driver was apprehended by the Sharjah Police (SP) only eight hours after his vehicle ran over a foreign woman and her kid who were crossing the road from an area not designated for pedestrian crossing, killing the mother on the scene and seriously injuring her child.
After a run-over accident on Al Taawun Street was reported to the Sharjah Police's Central Operations Room, the vehicle was located using traffic tracking systems and smart cameras, and the fleeing driver was arrested in a sandy area near the accident scene.
Sharjah Police advises the public to take precautions when crossing the road and to do so only at designated crossing points, stressing that police will not be lenient in enforcing the law against violators of traffic and traffic regulations, as well as those attempting to evade traffic patrols, and every behaviour that endangers the lives of road users, and urges drivers to follow the speed limit on the emirate's roads.
