Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) is preparing to launch the activities of the 19th edition of its Award. The registration is online and scheduled to open from 01 November to 31 December 2021.
During the periodic meeting of the Award’s Board of Trustees, held “remotely”, the meeting discussed the developments of the SAVW’s plan in its 19th edition for 2021 in terms of the time period, the stages, the participations’ applications, as well as discussing the latest necessary developments to keep pace with developments of voluntary works.

The meeting also discussed a set of proposals for the Award, including a proposal to provide a financial reward for the winners, and the participant to submit a statement by the participants from their employers stating their performance record as employees, and other proposals.

Afaf Ibrahim Al Marri, Chairperson of Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, stated that this meeting discussed several developmental issues to keep pace with the voluntary work process in Sharjah for the emirate is one of the first to launch many initiatives to enhance the voluntary work system.

The Award is undergoing many updates and constant developments due to the nature of the Award’s objectives set by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to enhance the essence of voluntary work among individuals and institutions throughout the UAE.

The Award includes three main categories, the first category is for those who participate by applying according to the conditions such as government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organisations.

The second category is for those who are selected by nomination, including individuals, groups, or institutions that have an impact on voluntary work. 

The third category is for volunteering students which include school and university students.

There are four fields classified to participate such the field of creating voluntary opportunities, the field of initiating voluntary work with social responsibility, the field of supporting voluntary work, and the field of participation in volunteering programmes.

The field of creating voluntary opportunities includes introducing a pioneering project in voluntary work. The field of initiating voluntary work with social responsibility includes solving problems facing the community. The field of supporting voluntary work is based on providing support, either financial, knowledge, to voluntary work. The field of participation in voluntary programmes is based on participating in voluntary work without compensation.
