Sharjah 24: On Saturday, the Executive Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management in the Eastern Region's cities held focused meetings in Kalba and Khorfakkan to determine the competent authorities' preparations to deal with the repercussions of Tropical Storm "Shaheen", which is expected to hit the Eastern Coast.
The committee's head, Colonel Dr Ali Al Kai Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, indicated that full preparedness has been used to cope with the issue, as well as the deployment of security patrols on the beaches that had been barred till further notice.
In an exclusive statement to “Sharjah 24”, he stated that the committee meets and closely monitors developments around the clock in collaboration with the national authorities, noting that plans for evacuation and emergency shelter are activated, if necessary, with the presence of rescue security teams in the area.
Al Hamoudi urged the population to exercise caution and co-operate with the authorities, and to avoid approaching beaches, valleys, and rain-gathering places to ensure their safety.
The Director of the Eastern Region Police Department warned users of social networking sites against publishing information or news that is inaccurate or untrustworthy, putting the source of the information in jeopardy, and emphasised the importance of obtaining information from official channels.
