MoHAP wins two awards in 8th edition of SGCA

Sharjah24: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has been named winner of two awards in the 8th edition of Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA) 2021 in the ‘Best Government Communication through New Media’ category dedicated to the Arab world as well as the ‘Best Practices for Dealing with the Coronavirus Crisis' category.
The SGCA was organised and supervised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB).

This came during the closing ceremony of the 8th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF), which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, under the ‘Historic Lessons, Future Ambitions’.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah Member of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) Chairman of Sharjah Media Council handed out the awards to HE Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, on behalf of  AbdulRahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, in the presence of Wedad Bu Humaid, Director of the Government Communications Department and the Government Communications department team.

Leading position 
The Minister of Health expressed his deep appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his vision and directives in support of the IGCF initiatives, which consolidated the leading position of the UAE in the field of government communication globally and served as a global platform for civilized, cultural and knowledge communication.

“The Ministry's winning of these two award was nothing but a culmination of its relentless efforts to excel in all fields and would enrich the ministry’s record of achievements made while striving to highlight the UAE’s advanced health model not only locally but also internationally,” Al Owais said. 

He stressed that the success achieved by the Government Communications department reflects the spirit of excellence and competitiveness that exists in the UAE thanks to the wise directives and vision of UAE leadership, which always strives to stimulate creativity and innovation and harness all resources to serve its people, especially in light of these circumstances.

“Owning to the pandemic, we had no option but to promote trust and transparency with the society and responded efficiently to the emerging global developments at the social, media and health levels. This award will be an outstanding incentive to achieve further successes,” the minister said, lauding the sustained efforts made by the Government Communications team. 

Significant milestone 
Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Health Services (EHS), expressed his pride in this victory and commended results achieved by the Ministry recently in local and international forums. 

Al Olama said: "This recognition is yet another significant milestone in the context of our plans to enhance the confidence of community members in the efficiency of health services in the Ministry, which is part of its strategy to provide comprehensive and integrated health care, consolidate a culture of innovation, and improve the quality of clinical care in accordance with the best international standards and the objectives of the Fifty-Year Charter.

Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health Sector, expressed his pride in winning such prestigious awards, which is an outstanding achievement not only locally but also at the regional level. 

Lauding the amazing performance of the work teams that cooperated to achieve this deserved global milestone, Al Rand emphasized that the ministry has played its full role as part of an integrated multidisciplinary government system and effectively handled the Covid-19 pandemic, achieved an effective response and dealt with proactiveness, flexibility and readiness, which contributed to maintaining the continuity of services, preserving national gains and consolidating the leadership of the UAE.

Effective Government Communication
For her part, Wedad Bu Humaid, Director of the Government Communications Department, MoHAP, said:” Winning these two awards is yet another testament to the ministry’s strenuous efforts made to adopt the best international practices and standards, particularly when it comes to promoting its national initiative through communication activities. “These two awards will undoubtedly ignite the spirit of innovation among the ministry’s employees to develop their expertise and capabilities.

Bu Humaid added that this attainment represents a milestone in the ministry’s journey towards success and excellence and will help achieve effective government communication according to the best international standards, and develop innovative proactive and interactive communication channels that contribute to educating the target groups about all the services, programs and policies provided by the Ministry. 

She lauded the action plans and methodologies adopted by the Ministry to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of digital media, which would be harnessed to manage data on digital platforms.  Bu Humaid also commended the ministry’s commitment to quality standards, which will help promote its as a leading sustainable and innovative institution, and consolidate the UAE’s distinguished reputation and leading position in the fields of global competitiveness.

Stressing the importance of the International Government Communication Forum organised by Sharjah, Bu Humaid stated that the event has become one of the top global forums and enjoys a good reputation worldwide. It also keeps pace with the UAE’s strategy aiming to shape the future based on a digital vision that supports innovation and stimulates creative ideas. Thanks to attracting elite decision-makers, thinkers and influencers, the event has successfully addressed best practices and solutions to challenges associated with government communication, shed light on the impact of technology, and discussed the potentials of new communication technologies, as well as the impact of Artificial Intelligence and the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the future of governments and the function and practices of government communication.
