Sharjah24: Leveraging the power of technology, Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) enabled 145 young members including Guides and Senior Guides to virtually explore the wonders of three neighbouring countries and learn about their customs, history and traditions as a part of its’ ‘Let’s travel together’ virtual tours organised during the month of September.
Hosted in cooperation with the UAE Girl Guides Association, the unique programme took the young SGG participants on a fascinating, technologically guided tour of Libya, Egypt and Bahrain, where they acquired new knowledge about the authentic cuisine and fashion of these nations. A highlight of the programme was virtual peer-to-peer meetings and engagement between SGG members and their regional counterparts.

The number of participants during the virtual trip to Libya were 99, 132 to Egypt and 145 to Bahrain. They interacted with the young members of Ras Al Khaimah Girl Guides, Fujairah Girl Guides, the Kuwaiti Girl Guides Association, the Algerian Islamic Scouts, the Yemeni Scouts and Guides Association, Palestinian Scouts Association and Nablus Scouts Commission, the Jordanian Association of Scouts and Girl Guides, the Association of Project Guides and the Baalbek Girl Guides Commission from Lebanon and the Qatar Girl Guides Commission.

Shaikha Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, noted this virtual exploration has been designed by the entity as a safer alternative to physical travel in these times. They are not just meant to satisfy the members’ desire to travel and explore, but also to enrich their knowledge from the comfort and safety of their homes.

She added that such experiences aided members to learn about the history and culture of countries in the region. As well as, helped build their capacities and facilitated expertise exchange that ultimately benefits the participants and their communities.
