Sharjah 24: On the World Humanitarian Day, which the world celebrates on August 19 each year, the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) launched 'Sharjah Humanitarian Initiative', which is organised by the Sharjah Centre for Voluntary Work.
This comes as part of implementing a number of volunteer initiatives by distributing snacks and ice cream for road users and gas station workers, as well as by supporting the organisational and supervisory work in the vaccination centres in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The aim of the initiative is to promote the values of compassion and highlight the importance of humanitarian work and its role in embodying social cohesion and solidarity among members of society.
The event witnessed the participation of many government entities, in which each entity provides its humanitarian work in its own way and what it deems appropriate according to its specialisation and field of work.
Hessa Al Hammadi, Director of the Department of Community Cohesion in SSSD, stated that this initiative, which was launched in conjunction with the World Humanitarian Day, highlighted the importance of humanitarian work by extending a helping hand to those in need.
Al Hammadi added that the initiative also targets different age groups of employees and volunteer teams registered with the participating government entities, provided that the volunteer’s is in good health condition in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
