Sharjah 24: His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Monday issued two Emiri decrees appointing Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi as Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the emirate’s Petroleum Council.
The appointment of Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, as His Highness's deputy and Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council, is a great opportunity to strengthen Sharjah's governance system and work on a development roadmap.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi is also member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, which oversees the Sharjah Media Corporation, Sharjah Government Media Bureau and Sharjah Media City.
Sheikh Sultan has been Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council since 1999.

Green Impact
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi left a green environmental impact and contributed a number of times to preserving the environment through numerous initiatives, interventions and positions in this field including chairman of the Green Planet LLC's board of directors. Since 2005, "Green Planet" Medical Company's Board of Directors since 2005, and The Medical and Hazardous Waste Company - WEKAYA LLC since 2010.
Awards and Achievements
Sheikh Sultan received the Arab League’s” Media Personality of the Year 2016” award in recognition of his active role in developing the media sector locally and regionally, and since 2017, he has been elected Big Heart’s humane envoy.
In the government communications and media sectors, a lot was achieved under the leadership of His Highness including the setting up of the Sharjah Media Council, the Sharjah Media city "Shams", the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the restructuring of Sharjah Radio, the setting-up, in addition, new radio stations such as "The Holy Quran Radio," "Plus 95," and "Watar" Radio have been established, as well as new channels such as "Al Sharqiah" from Kalba and "Al Wusta" from Al Dhaid.
In 2015, he launched the news website, "Sharjah 24," in both Arabic and English, and in 2017, he launched the largest digital media platform in the Middle East, "OMNES Media," and in 2016, he launched the first International Photography Festival of its kind in the Middle East.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi launched a number of pioneering and first-of-their-kind initiatives in the region, the most notable of which are the International Government Communication Forum in 2012, the Emirate of Sharjah's first effective government communication network in 2013, the Sharjah Government Communication Award 2013, and the Sharjah events website www.sharjahevents.com.
In 2007, Sheikh Sultan launched the Sharjah Water Festival and the Formula One Sharjah's Formula 1 Powerboat Championship, as well as the Sharjah Light Festival in 2011.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in Arkansas, U.S.A. and a Master of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems from University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan, U.S.A.
