Sharjah 24: “It is our responsibility to protect the environment,” Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Advisor to the Ajman Government for Environmental Affairs and Chief Executive Officer of the Environment Friends Society, said in a message to people around the world, calling on new generations to carry the message of maintaining a clean, sustainable environment.
This was revealed during his participation on Sharjah TV's "Molhemoon" programme, which airs every Tuesday evening, when he talked about a side of his work and his experience in environmental awareness, and how it has inspired the ideas and values, he holds dear.
Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi, also known as the "Green Sheikh," explained how his university studies at the College of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering, as well as his military specialisation after serving in the Chemical Defence Force, opened up new horizons in his life and sparked a desire to specialise in environmental engineering. According to his description, the environment prompted him to take specialised courses in this field, join various environment laboratories, and then travel to various countries to learn about their experiences with sustainable energy in order to transform from a "polluted person in a factory to a cleaner person in life."
He mentioned that learning to dive had a significant impact on his life career, as well as his voluntary work with the Environment Friends Society, which was created in 1991, and his appointment as Chairman of the Board in 1996.
Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi praised the great support that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, provides to the Environment Friends Society on a regular basis, emphasising that he is the main inspirer and supporter of any forum, project, or conference that the Environment Friends Society undertakes.
He recalled a story from his childhood about falling into a pit on his way home from school on a rainy day when he was seven years old, only to be surprised by a hand that extended to him and saved his life, and how this incident taught him a vital lesson about lending a helpful hand to anyone who is in need.
Finally, he urged young people to invest their energies, potentials, and the wonderful opportunities that life offers, He urged them to be a source of hope, impact, and reward.
