Sharjah: 24: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) hosted, on Wednesday, the Sharjah and Portugal Business Forum (SPBF) in collaboration with the Portuguese Agency for Trade and Investment on the sidelines of the reception of a delegation from the Portuguese Association of the lumber industry (AIMMP).
Abdelaziz Mohamed Shattaf, Assistant Director General of the Chamber for the Members’ Services Sector, Director of the Sharjah Exports Development Centre (SEDC), Ibrahim Rashid Al Jarwan, Director of Economic Relations and Marketing at the SCCI, the Economic Adviser at the Portuguese Republic's Embassy in UAE and the Head of the Portuguese delegation were among those who attended the forum which was held at the Chamber's headquarters.

Representatives from the Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone), the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), and a number of Chamber department heads and directors, as well as Portuguese and Emirati businessmen specialising in the lumber industry and other industries, were among those in attendance.

The purpose of the event is to introduce joint investment opportunities, examine prospects for collaboration and bilateral partnerships in many economic areas, and allow businesses from both countries to meet with their counterparts to explore cooperation options accessible on both sides.

Shattaf mentioned that the Sharjah Chamber looks forward to stressing the importance of sustained joint work and direct communication between the business communities as a translation of the wise leadership's vision in developing and strengthening Sharjah's relations with friendly and brotherly countries through this forum.

The Economic Adviser of the Portuguese Republic's Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, Daniel Pontas, appreciated the hospitality shown to the Portuguese mission in Sharjah praising the Sharjah Chamber's efforts in organising this forum, which brings together an elite group of parties interested in bilateral economic cooperation, and highlighting that the UAE, in general, and the Emirates of Sharjah, in particular, are ideal economic partners for the Portuguese business community He also mentioned that Portugal's exports to the UAE totaled over 173 million Euros, while the UAE's exports to Portugal totaled 42 million Euros.

The Director of the Sharjah Investors Services Centre, Marwan Saleh Alichla , presented an introductory presentation to Portuguese entrepreneurs and investors, presenting Sharjah's distinctive investment components and inviting business environment.

Sharjah Airport International Free Zone Authority's representative confirmed that the zone's participation in the forum is part of its strategy to communicate with international companies and institutions in order to familiarise them with the Sharjah Airport Free Zone's unique advantages, which include over 7,500 companies.
