Sharjah 24 – KUNA: The Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abulgeit welcomed Thursday the US decision to reopen its consulate in East Al Quds, considering it an important step toward strengthening relations between Washington and Palestine.
In a statement, Abul Geit said "such a step is correction to the mistake taken by the previous US Administration's closing of the consulate that has always been a diplomatic bridge between the US and Palestine." He confirmed that the American step reflects a positive approach toward the two-state solution as the only way to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He stressed that East Al Quds is located within the lands occupied back in 1967 and represents the future Palestinian capital.
Abulgeit added that "the re-opening of the US Consulate in the occupied territories reflects the American awareness of the importance of keeping the foundation of the two-state solution that has become increasingly eroded by Israeli restrictions and settlement activity.
