Sharjah 24: Sharjah Municipality (SM) announced that it successfully intensified inspection campaigns during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr, through the inspection teams of the Food Inspection Section in the Public health sector and central laboratories.
SM completed 5000 inspections including visits to restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and all food preparation outlets to ensure that they provide safe food to consumers, and abide by the health standards and preventive measures that have been imposed.
Sheikha Shatha Al Mualla, Assistant Director General of the Public Health and Central Laboratories Sector of SM, stated that inspection teams intensified their campaigns and inspections the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al Fitr, as part of the Municipality’s plans to ensure that food outlets adhere to all sanitary controls. Al Mualla added that inspections ensured that food is not displayed outside the stores, issuing the necessary permits for outlets providing food whilst fasting. Al Mualla confirmed all preventive and precautionary measures were taken including employees’ commitment to get tested, every two weeks, for COVID-19 virus or to get vaccinated. Facilities were also committed to periodic sterilisation and to abide by other measures.
Dr. Amal Al Shamsi, Director of the Public Health Sector, explained that such intense and surprise campaigns resulted in 15 confiscation reports of non-conforming or damaged foodstuffs.
Al Shamsi noted that the Sector processed 61 complaints from the public, and issued 194 warnings against a number of outlets.
Al Shamsi noted that providing safe food to consumers is one of the most important goals and priorities of the Municipality, and is part of the strategy aiming to enhance the quality and sustainability of public health in Sharjah.
