Sharjah 24: The punitive and correctional institution of the General Command of Sharjah Police General Command, celebrated the International Inmates Day, which is observed every year on July 18. The celebration aims to highlight the efforts made by Sharjah Police, and the UAE culture that encourage inmates by working to modify their behavior, rehabilitating them and preparing them for social integration.

Colonel Mona Sorour, Deputy Director of the Punitive and Correctional Department, confirmed that celebrating the International Inmates Day on an annual basis reflects the noble human values, and contributes to enhancing the community’s confidence in the efforts made to achieve the message of the penal and correctional institutions in reforming and rehabilitating inmates, providing them the necessary support, and helping them to become good individuals ready to social integration.

The celebration included a number of initiatives and events, which consisted in organising a number of cultural competitions for inmates, showing theatrical performances, and organising the International Virtual Family Meeting, with the participation of 92 families, from 16 countries, with the aim of enhancing family communication and strengthening social ties between inmates and their families.
