Sharjah 24: The Directorate of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah has inaugurated in Al Suyoh 1 Suburb in Sharjah. The two mosques accommodate 1595 worshipers.
Covering and area of 12332.3 square metres, Al Afu Mosque combines both Islamic architecture and modernity, and topped by 4 circular domes and two minarets with a height of 30 metres each.
The men’s space can accommodate 1135 worshipers, while the women’s side can cope up with 85 women.
As for Amr bin Absa Mosque, which sits on a total area of 1468 square metres, accommodates 460 male and 60 female worshipers. Combining the Islamic architectural style and modern style, the mosque is topped by a circular dome and a 19.1- metre- high minaret.
Both mosques include service facilities, residences for the imams and others for the muezzins.
The new mosques are as part of the Directorate's tireless efforts to translate the visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, represented in the construction of mosques to serve citizens and residents in performing their religious duties duly.
His Highness’s visions also focus on the importance of constructing service facilities that embody the aspirations of the Sharjah government to enhance stability and societal cohesion and achieve the urban renaissance in all cities and suburbs of the emirate.
The opening of the two mosques stems from the Directorate’s keenness to keep pace with the development plan and urban development in the Emirate of Sharjah, and the remarkable population growth in Al Suyoh 1 Suburb.
