Sharjah 24: Dr Khalid Abu Amsha, a professor of applied linguistics and an expert in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers at ICESCO, highlighted that the 10th Linguistic Council—organized by the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah—provides a significant academic platform for discussing the essential characteristics and skills needed by Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers, considering both international and Emirati standards.
The council seeks to emphasise the crucial skills that educators must have, thus aiding in the advancement of Arabic teaching methods and enhancing educational quality through the application of internationally acknowledged standards in the discipline.

Professional perspectives
In an exclusive interview with Sharjah 24, Dr. Abu Amsha articulated that the council aims to highlight the essential attributes and skills required for teachers of Arabic to non-native speakers, which will contribute to the advancement of teaching methods and the enhancement of educational quality.

He emphasised that training educators to meet international standards is an essential step in enhancing the global standard of Arabic language education. He also noted that the council examined various international criteria for qualifying Arabic teachers, including standards from America, Europe, and Australia, in addition to Emirati standards that conform to global norms, showcasing the United Arab Emirates’ dedication to enhancing the status of the Arabic language.

Additionally, Abu Amsha emphasised that these initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of Arabic education and elevating teachers’ skills by embracing the latest educational trends. He commended the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah for its efforts in promoting and broadening the global presence of the Arabic language.
