Sharjah24-WAM: More than 31,000 people have been evacuated from at-risk areas in southern China’s Hainan province as persistent heavy rain has battered parts of the island.

Xinhua News Agency, citing the provincial committee for disaster prevention, mitigation and relief, reported that no major disasters had been recorded following the heavy rainfall.

Between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon, rainfall exceeded 300 millimetres in 24 townships across six cities and counties.

Changfeng township in Wanning recorded the highest rainfall, at 452.1 millimetres during the period.

More rain is forecast across parts of the island, with authorities continuing to monitor weather conditions and the risks posed by persistent rainfall.
