Sharjah 24 – AFP: More than 30 people are missing following a landslide in China’s southwestern Sichuan province on Saturday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Landslide strikes Jinping Village

The landslide hit Jinping village in the city of Yibin at approximately 11:50 am (0350 GMT), burying ten houses and leaving over 30 people unaccounted for. Around 200 people were evacuated and relocated to safety.

Ongoing rescue operations

Rescuers have advised people to avoid the area as the landslide is still ongoing. China's President Xi Jinping has ordered authorities to take all necessary measures to search for the missing, minimize casualties, and effectively manage the aftermath.
