Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen were the stars of the night, with the Argentine providing all three assists for Malen’s hat-trick.

Roma started aggressively under manager Gian Piero Gasperini and thought they had opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Mario Hermoso, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Seven minutes later, Dybala broke through the Fiorentina defence before setting up Malen, who rounded David de Gea and put the hosts ahead.

Roma continued to dominate after the interval, with Dybala again finding Malen in the 52nd minute. The Dutch forward fired home a powerful shot, doubling the lead.

The pair combined again eight minutes later, with Dybala providing his third assist and Malen completing his hat-trick in the 60th minute.

Roma controlled the rest of the match despite limited attempts from Fiorentina, with substitute Niccolò Pisilli completing the rout in the 86th minute, just minutes after coming on.

Roma finished with around 61 per cent of possession and 17 shots, compared with nine for Fiorentina.

The victory gave Roma their first three points of the season, with Malen’s hat-trick and Dybala’s three assists highlighting a dominant opening-night display.
